Yesterday, I overheard a co-worker talking about how much he enjoyed a show that he attended at a High end Casino/Resort and Hotel. He spoke about how the atmosphere at the resort was so high end and how the show was extremely entertaining, an absolute laugh machine. As I heard it, I thought good for him because he deserved it. This is a guy that works very hard always doing the best he can for the organization. He had a great time and I could tell he was very grateful.
At one point someone asked him how the Hotel Room, food and room service was. His response was: oh, I did'nt stay there. He settled for a Motel several blocks away and took a cab to the resort, ate at the regular fast food restaurants in the area and saved a bunch of money as a result.
My question is why did he settle? Imagine the experience he would have described had he had the ability, financially and mentally, to take advantage of the entire experience on a five star level.
I realize that this is a small and maybe even a superficial example of settling, but that is exactly the point. If we are able and willing to settle on a very small and superficial playing field, what are we settling for on the large and important ones?
Settling, is like being a giant drowning in three feet of water -- all you have to do is stand up.
We are taught to go to school, get a job, prepare for retirement so you can survive when you are older. Because of this attitude of survival, that is what the vast majority do -- survive. We go to work, build someone else's dream and financial freedom all while dreaming of being something else. I know I did not dream, as a child, of doing what I do for a living today. I know that is going to change however. Deana and I will be successful in the Network Marketing Industry, we will become published authors and we will be on the Public Speaking Circuit. We are in the process of accomplishing those three desires right now.
When you turn your wrench day to day -- what do you think of?
When you work the cash register -- what do you desire?
When you turn on your cab -- what would you rather be doing?
When you are talking to a client -- where do your daydreams take you?
When you go to bed tonight -- say to yourself "I am so grateful for what I have, what I have accomplished and for the people that help me in achieving it, but, why am I settling?
