Deana's take on Being a Student of Personal Development

It is pretty easy to let outside circumstances control your feelings. At least eighty percent of the stuff coming at us every day is negative. I don't know how anyone can survive never mind thrive without being a student of personal development. With all the constant negative people and situations one is exposed to you need to balance it out somehow.

Remember personal development comes in many forms, reading, writing, visualizing, meditating, attending uplifting conferences or church. Whatever works for you is the key. The important thing is that you apply what you are learning. It is all good and well to sit and read an inspirational book and feel warm and fuzzy inside. However, if you do not apply the principles into your life, the results will be short term at best.

The application point is where many of us fall short. Sometimes it really involves getting out of your comfort zone. Exploring how we are feeling, why we are feeling it, and how we can change it can be difficult.

Consider Perry in his situation, so many of our close friends and family members have commented on how strong he is emotionally to have powered through his amputation. What they don't see and sometimes I don't even see, are the times like he just described for us when he is having a bad day or week, overwhelmed with the shock of losing his leg. The reason we don't see it is because of his ability to bounce back, which can only be attributed to applying the personal development principles he has learned.

We all go through tough times and hardships, so it is so important to expose ourselves to all the positive information we can. Don't beat yourself up if you are going through a tough time, but do what you need to in order to get through it. Find the personal development that works for you, and apply it into your life. If you don't look our for number one, who will?
